The flurry of players that West Ham have brought in this summer may have caused them to forget about the talent that they already had.

However, that is not the case with striker Javier Hernandez, who the club must retain after boss Manuel Pellegrini delivered an update on his future as reported by the Daily Star.

There is a question mark on how the Hammers boss will line up his attack following the arrivals of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko, and current attacker Marko Arnautovic, but the Mexican should be included despite the strengthened competition for places.

The Chilean was quoted by the Daily Star as saying: “I spoke with Javier before he played at the World Cup. When I signed here, I told him that he would be a very important player here with me.”

Despite the fact the World Cup star only netted eight times last season for the Irons, that should not cause him to be ousted from the team – he is a technically gifted player in front of goal who will only improve with the right service around him.

Now Anderson and Yarmolenko have joined forces, that aim should be more than possible, and the combination of the trio up front is a lethal prospect that is exciting for the club and its fans.

When the frontman was playing for Manchester United, he was feared by most of the defences in the league, and he was a prolific goalscorer during his time at Old Trafford.

Pellegrini needs to make sure he is not forgotten about after the new players arrive and set up an attack that will strike fear into the hearts of Premier League defenders.

The club need to do the right thing and keep him in their long-term future, or they will live to regret it if another side snaps him up.
