West Ham suffered a shattering blow after Argentina stated that Manuel Lanzini had picked up a serious injury but the devastating news reportedly has a silver lining after all.

Argentina tweeted, via their Twitter account on Friday, that the Hammers midfielder had sustained a serious knee injury which had ended his World Cup before it even begun.

A follow up report on the incident by the Daily Mail then shared that due to the nature of Lanzini’s suspected injury it was very likely that he would miss games for the Hammers at the start of their 2018/19 campaign too.

This news was a huge blow as the attacking midfielder is a dazzling talent who was clearly set to be a key player once again for the club in their next upcoming season.

However it seems every cloud does have a silver lining after all as Claret and Hugh have since shared that Pellegrini will have to change his transfer market plans because of the injury and this could seem him ditch his pursuit of Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson.

The London-based club saw a bid rejected for the centre-back, as reported by Wales Online, and while that is a position that needs strengthening in this window Mawson is no longer the man they should target.

According to an update on the 24-year-old defender’s availability this summer, via Wales Online, the Swans have their heart set on playing hardball in negotiations despite expecting him to depart.

The Welsh news outlet state that Swansea are hoping to get every bit of money they can for Mawson and feel they’ll be able to do that as several clubs will be interested in signing him.

It is believed that the Swans will particularly hold out for a very decent offer regarding the defender, who featured 38 times for them in the Premier League season, as some of his fee will have to go to his previous club Barnsley due to their original transfer agreement.

This stance means that a pursuit of Mawson will not only be costly, he will go above market value, but will drag on as the Swans wait to see other clubs enter the race.

The Hammers can’t afford to waste time messing about with getting their transfer targets as there’s a lot of business to be done, so Lanzini’s injury which will force Pellegrini to swiftly U-turn in his pursuit of the defender is actually a blessing.
