West Ham are unlikely to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere due to his injury record and wage demands, according to a trusted club insider.

ExWHUemployee on Twitter, who supplies exclusive news and opinions regarding the Hammers, delivered their verdict on the club’s chances of successfully signing the 26-year-old by sharing that the midfielder isn’t seen as being right for the club.

The Hammers were thought to be leading the race for Wilshere’s services, as reported by the Daily Star, if the player opted to leave the Gunners when his current £90,000-per-week (source: Total Sportek) deal expires at the end of June.

OPINION

The Hammers were believed to be at the front of the queue when it came to acquiring the 26-year-old’s signature if he become available but clearly that isn’t the case. ExWHUemployee is regularly right with his information and it’s hard to see why he’s not correct on this occasion as well. The trusted source opens the door to Wilshere possibly arriving at the London Stadium if he lowers his wage demands but that seems an unlikely scenario. The 26-year-old turned down a new contract at the Gunners, according to the Star’s report, and has several clubs pursuing him so it’s likely one of them will match his salary demand. It’s no great shame though as while Wilshere is clearly talented, he did impress at the Emirates in his 40 outings in the recently concluded season, there is a huge question mark above his head. The 26-year-old has seen his career held back due to reoccurring injury problems and after just one season of regularly staying fit, it’s not enough to take a financial gamble on getting his services.
