West Ham are on the verge of announcing the signing of defender Issa Diop from Toulouse, according to Les Violets.

The website dedicated to the French side claim that according to their information the 21-year-old centre-back had passed a medical and signed a five-year contract with West Ham.

Les Violets report that Toulouse were expected to receive £21.9million for Diop’s services and that the transfer could officially be confirmed within hours with the announcement probably coming today (Tuesday).

OPINION

This would be fantastic news if true as the capture of Diop would be widely celebrated by Hammers fans. Manuel Pellegrini was no doubt desperate to bolster his defence with new recruits when looking at the Hammers’ defensive record last season and will be thrilled that the club will be adding Diop to their ranks. The 6ft 4in tall enforcer (Source: Transfermarkt) wowed for Toulouse in his 2017/18 campaign as he was a solid presence throughout the 34 league appearances he made for them. With the colossus defender still being relatively young the best is no doubt still yet to come which is an exciting thought. Under Pellegrini’s guidance the centre-back can continue improving and will be seen as a top-level Premier League defender in no time. As Les Violets claim that Diop is signing a five-year deal with the Hammers then hopefully it’s the London club that will see him flourish within their ranks. However it’s worth noting that there have been mixed reports about how close this deal has been to getting done on numerous occasions.
