West Ham winger Michali Antonio has a chance of being fit for the opening game of the Premier League season, according to Football.London.

The website state that the 28-year-old winger, who earns £70,000-a-week at the London Stadium currently [Daily Mail],  has made good progress in his attempts to recover from the hamstring injury that ended his latest campaign.

Football.London state that Antonio is already getting involved with training in order to regain his fitness ahead of the new season after seeing his 2017/18 season hampered by injury.

It is believed that due to his progress then Antonio has a chance of featuring against Liverpool at Anfield on August 11 in the opening game of the Hammers’ 2018/19 campaign.

OPINION

This is fantastic news for Antonio as he needs to make a positive impression on Manuel Pellegrini this summer in order to have any chance of sticking around at the club. TeamTalk previously claimed that the Hammers boss had not included Antonio in his plans for the next season and that the winger was set to quit the club due to this. However if afforded an opportunity to feature in pre-season then the winger has a real chance of forcing himself into Pellegrini’s plan as the experienced boss won’t ignore talent staring him in the face. Therefore Antonio needs to keep making good progress with his recovery in order to be able to show Pellegrini what he has to offer before he is forced out the doors of the London Stadium. The 28-year-old, who suffered three separate injuries in 2017/18 (Transfermarkt), must be hoping not to have another injury-hit campaign in order to secure his long-term future at the Hammers.
