New West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is said to be focusing his recruitment efforts in midfield and defence this summer, which is understandable considering the club’s atrocious record in 2017/18.
However, Pellegrini must be careful to not forget about his attacking force, with several current players needing to be shipped out and replacements brought in.
In terms of their attacking players, the Hammers seem to have a lot of strikers and attacking midfielders and not many wide men, with Arthur Masuaku the only player you could describe as an out-and-out winger.
That will need to change this summer, and there looks to be a perfect opportunity for the Hammers to bring in a talented young winger with Premier League experience in the coming weeks.
As reported by the Mirror, Everton are looking to offload 12 players this summer as they look to clear their wage bill while raising funds for new manager Marco Silva to invest.
One of those on the chopping block is young winger Ademola Lookman, who is coming off an impressive loan spell in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.
The 20-year-old winger scored five goals in 11 appearances for Leipzig, with four assists on top of that, and the Bundesliga side are unsurprisingly keen to bring him back this summer.
West Ham however must hijack that interest to snap Lookman up for themselves, with the speed demon perfect for the Pellegrini revolution.
The Chilean is reportedly looking to bring in young players with pace to burn this summer, and Lookman fits both billings perfectly.
An added bonus is Lookman’s experience at such a young age, with the 20-year-old have plied his trade in the Premier League and Bundesliga already.
Everton bought the wide man for around £8million in January 2017, meaning that a bid of around £12million should get the Toffees to sell up.
That would be a perfect deal for all involved, with Pellegrini getting a young talent, the West Ham board not having to turn out their pockets, and Everton offloading an unwanted player.
West Ham must therefore swoop for Lookman as soon as possible, before someone else inevitably snaps him up this summer.
