West Ham United are attempting to hijack the hunt for Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, according to The Sun

The newspaper report that the Hammers have contacted the Ligue 1 club about a deal for the 26-year-old enforcer, who is said to be in advanced talks with Chelsea as he eyes a move to the Premier League.

The Sun claim that the Irons will have to match Seri’s release clause of £35million to stand any chance of signing him, with Napoli and Borussia Dortmund also in the hunt.

Good move for West Ham?

100%.

Seri is one of Europe’s most in-demand midfielders, with his form for Nice over the past two seasons catching the eye of some of the continent’s biggest clubs.

Barcelona were in for Seri last summer before that move was shut down, and that kind of interest illustrates the calibre of player we are dealing with here.

Manuel Pellegrini has already spoken of luring a big name to the London Stadium, and Seri would be exactly the right player to kickstart his revolution.

Furthermore, £35million is an absolute steal in today’s market, meaning this is a deal that look perfect all-round for the Hammers.

Likely to happen?

Unfortunately not.

Chelsea look to be in pole position for the Ivory Coast international, with big clubs from Italy and Germany also in the mix.

West Ham would have to pull out all the stops for Seri, and it is not known whether the club has the financial might to realistically compete for his signature.
