West Ham have lodged a sensational £37million bid for Lazio wide forward Felipe Anderson as they look to make him their club-record signing, according to a club insider.

Ex-WHU Employee, who is renowned for having the inside track on the Hammers, revealed on the West Ham Way podcast broadcast on Phoenix FM on Tuesday night (38:40) that the jawdropping offer is on the table for one-time Brazil international.

He explained West Ham are willing to go further than they ever have before in terms of a transfer fee in order to secure the capture of Anderson after holding talks with Lazio over the transfer for a number of weeks.

“What I can exclusively reveal is that we have actually put in a bid of £37million for Anderson,” Ex-WHU Employee told the podcast. “We’re also going to bid for [Alfie] Mawson as well.”

OPINION

West Ham are not just looking to beat their transfer record. They’re trying to smash it to smithereens. £37million is £14million than the club’s record purchase, the Tuesday night signing of defender Issa Diop from Toulouse that co-owner David Gold claimed on his personal Twitter account to have cost the club £23million-plus. That was a serious signal of intent from the Hammers. Spending nearly £40million of Anderson would be an astonishing statement of ambition from a board that has been criticised widely by supporters over the last three years for their caution in the market and inability to back up big talk with some big moves. Anderson has the potential to add a brilliant new dimension to an attack massively reliant last season on Marko Arnautovic for goals and presence. With Manuel Lanzini out for the season, West Ham badly need more matchwinners capable of creating and scoring goals. They’s going all out to get one as they push hard for Anderson.
