West Ham are monitoring Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis, according to talkSPORT journalist Geoff Peters

Peters took to his personal Twitter account to claim that the Canaries had offered their pacey 20-year-old defender a new contract as there has been major interest from Bournemouth and Watford.

The talkSPORT presenter and match reporter shared that the Hammers, Burnley as well as Celtic were all keeping tabs on the player, with Norwich City valuing Lewis as being worth more than £10million.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes, as it has the future in mind.

Lewis had an impressive breakthrough season at the Canaries in his 2017/18 campaign as he started to regularly feature for the first-team once he had overcome a knee injury.

The 20-year-old flyer, who can feature as a left-back or left-sided midfielder, is a neat passer of the ball and is strong in the tackle which makes him look like a very promising talent.

Lewis featured 24 times for Norwich’s first-team last season and even managed to score one goal in the process.

Despite it being his first season of regularly playing senior football, the 20-year-old’s impressive displays saw him win his first cap for Northern Ireland in March.

This accolade shows that he is at the very least a promising talent that the Hammers should keep an eye on.

Likely to happen?

According to Peters the youngster is in no rush to leave Carrow Road and it’s easy to see why.

Lewis is getting regular game time at the club and that is doing wonders for his development so he would be foolish to uproot his career at this fragile stage.

However it seems the Hammers are in the hunt to sign him but could be waiting to pounce on him at a later date as Norwich are moving to keep him happy where he is by offering the player a new contract.

If Lewis is on the verge of joining one of the other interested clubs or his situation regarding his willingness to move changes, it seems the Hammers are making sure their aware of any development regarding him in order to then consider making a move by keeping him on their radar.
