West Ham fans on social media fumed over a report that claimed defender Declan Rice’s contract situation was now leading to clubs being interested in his services.
The Sun’s print edition (Thursday June 21st, page 49) stated that Bournemouth and Crystal Palace were mulling over making bids for the teenage centre-back due to his contract situation.
The Sun’s report also claimed that Rice was set to fall down the pecking order at the club due to Issa Diop arriving at the London Stadium after being signed for big-money.
ExWHUemployee on Twitter, who is a trusted source of insider information when it comes to Hammers, tweeted that the report was likely not that far from the truth.
It’s probably not that far from the truth and there will be others! The bottom line is we got to give him an appropriate deal, like we discussed on the podcast and get his future sorted https://t.co/Ntd1ZRQHw4

The insider also in their tweet shared that the bottom line of the report was that the club needed to sort the player’s contract out as there will be other clubs interested in him.
Hammers supporters reacted to the report following the insider’s assessment to share their anger over the potential situation surrounding Rice’s future.
One fan stated that if the defender left as well as Marko Arnautovic then the fans protests at the Burnley game, as covered by the BBC’s match report at the time, would look like a tea party.
The Hammers were previously thought to be confident about getting Rice to pen a new deal, as stated by Claret & Hugh, after tabling a contract that would see him earn £15,000-a-week.

There will be up roar if he's allowed to leave. I really don't understand WHU sometimes. We break the bank to bring in Diop but won't give Dec £20k. @ExWHUemployee any news on the reason for the stand off?

Typical West Ham, make some positive signings for a change but then balls it all up by not offering the best young player we’ve produced for years a contract that he’s worth. We really do need to get him tied down to a decent contract asap⚒⚒

Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are willing to give him a lot of money as well. We gotta keep him, he’ll play such a huge role next season
