West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is already in conflict with the club hierarchy just two weeks into his tenure, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that the Chilean is growing concerned after seeing multiple requests for players turned down, despite the board handing him significant guarantees when he agreed to take the job.

The Mirror claim that Pellegrini is now preparing himself for a battle with club bosses to get his own way in the transfer market as he looks to strengthen the Hammers squad.

These are worrying claims for West Ham fans just a few weeks into Pellegrini’s reign, with the board seemingly up to their old tricks again as they look to limit spending this summer.

OPINION

It looks like the West Ham board are up to the same old tricks again despite having secured such an exciting appointment for the club. The rhetoric coming out of the club following Pellegrini’s appointment suggested that changes were in store at the London Stadium, but that does not look to be the case at the present moment. Maybe these are just teething problems, and the two sides can work out a way out of operating well alongside each other, but the signs are worrying nonetheless. The true acid test will be the make-up of the squad come mid-August, when the transfer window shuts and the season begins. If Pellegrini does not have the squad in place that he envisioned and was promised, then these problems will no doubt fester and become an even bigger issue. If that does end up happening, then don’t be surprised to see Pellegrini go the way of many of his predecessors, leaving prematurely due to issues with the board.
