West Ham United remain in talks with Paris Saint-Germain as they attempt to reach an agreement for Javier Pastore, according to Claret and Hugh

The Hammers news website, which is a reliable source for insider information, report that Pastore is the one player that Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is desperate to bring in this summer.

Claret and Hugh claim that the club are hoping Pastore will lower his wage demands as PSG attempt to find him a new club in their quest to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

The site previously reported that Pastore earns around £200,000-a-week in the French capital.

Good move for West Ham?

In footballing terms, absolutely.

The Argentina international is a sublime playmaker of the highest order, and would bring an instant boost in quality to the West Ham squad.

His experience of playing at the top level with PSG over the last few years will also be crucial, with West Ham looking to mount a challenge for a European place next season.

However, the deal is only worth it should Pastore temper his demands, with his wages of £190,000-a-week not sustainable for the club in the long run.

Likely to happen?

It looks like West Ham are determined to get their man, and PSG are similarly determined to get rid of him.

However, this wage discrepancy in talks is a big stumbling block, and it is not clear whether Pastore is to consider a drop in pay.

A lot may come down to whether there is another club in the running, or whether one enters the race further down the line.

If that happens, then West Ham may be in trouble, but if it doesn’t then they should be in with a shot.
