Fiorentina have had a bid rejected for West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang but are planning to lodge a second offer, according to Football Insider.

The reliable football site claim the Serie A outfit will continue their pursuit of the ex-Sampdoria player and a fresh bid is to be tabled “later this week”.

Football Insider report that West Ham will sell Obiang at the right price even though he signed a new contract last summer that runs until the summer of 2022.

OPINION

It would not go down too well with Irons if the board cash in on Obiang, who has demonstrated since signing from Fiorentina in the summer of 2015 that he is a classy central midfielder. The 26-year-old was playing the best football of his Hammers career in the first half of last season before suffering a knee injury in January that ruled him out for much of the rest of the campaign. West Ham will be able to sell at a major profit if they do sell, because Obiang committed to a new deal last July that has four more years left. Capped by Spain at Under-21s level, Obiang is a fine midfielder who has improved considerably during his three years at West Ham, enough even to be linked with Liverpool. A return to Italy would make some sense as his playing style is suited to Serie A and he came up through the youth ranks at Sampdoria, where he spent five years in total after joining from Atletico Madrid as a teenager.
