West Ham United attacker Marko Arnautovic has provided a worrying response to reported interest from Manchester United by admitting it is “nice to hear.”

The 29-year-old Austria international has emerged as a surprise target for United boss Jose Mourinho, who was spotted watching him in action against Russia last week.

While Arnautovic will have the summer off as Austria didn’t make the World Cup, he will have one more run-out against 888sport World Cup favourites Brazil on Sunday.

Sky Sports have previously suggested that Arnautovic is on Mourinho’s wishlist this summer, with the Hammers favourite set to cost around £50million, and Arnautovic has now responded to these claims.

As quoted by the Express, he said: “It’s nice to hear. I’ve not heard anything from my brother, my agent. You can keep asking this question, you’ll never hear the answer from me.”

OPINION

Arnautovic has remained coy here over a move to United, as players usually do in this situation. The Red Devils’ interest in the 29-year-old has come as a surprise, and many still do not necessarily see it as serious, with Mourinho surely having other targets who are higher on his list. However, if United are truly interested in the Austrian, and they do end up making a bid for him, then there may be something to worry about for Hammers fans. Arnautovic is not exactly known for his loyalty, and despite the brilliant season he has has with West Ham, you would think that he would most certainly fancy a move to Old Trafford. The striker is not getting any younger, being close to 30, and this could be the last chance he gets to move to another massive club. However, the Hammers will not let him go on the cheap, and a move at this point looks far less likely to happen than the other way around.
