Felipe Anderson “wants to join West Ham” and is waiting to do so as they thrash out the terms of a deal with his club Lazio, according to a reliable journalist.

Guardian and Sky Sports correspondent Fabrizio Romano delivered a new slant on the Hammers’ pursuit of the Brazil international as he explained the latest situation on Friday morning.

Romano explained on his personal Twitter account there is “some problem” between West Ham and Lazio over the performance-related add-ons and future sell-on clause incorporated in the deal but the player is adamant he wants to join the London club.

OPINION

First, the bad news. Lazio have moved the goalposts and are demanding West Ham pay more than originally had been agreed in negotiations over the transfer of Anderson. This makes an already expensive and complicated deal far more complex than it had been, and need be. Second, the good news. Anderson – a bona fide Serie A star who has been closely pursued by Manchester United in the past and capped by Brazil at full international level – wants to join West Ham. Indeed, he is waiting, biding his time, crossing his fingers and shredding his nails while the suits try and reach an agreement. Can it go through, for the Hammers to secure a landmark summer signing who has brilliance in his boots and could make a huge impact on the right attacking flank next season? Yes, certainly, it can. But it might take a good deal longer than originally planned. This one could go on well into next week amid what could be several twists and turns.
