West Ham must make a move in the summer for Alex McCarthy as the 28-year-old would be the perfect player to solve the club’s goalkeeping issues.

The Daily Mirror reported on Saturday that Liverpool, Arsenal and Premier League new boys Wolves were all interested in signing the 6ft 3in tall keeper as they wanted to strengthen that area of their team.

However the Hammers must hijack their rivals’ interest in McCarthy and welcome him to the London Stadium ahead of next season as he would solve the club’s problem between the sticks.

David Moyes’ side have conceded 67 goals in 37 league games, ahead of Sunday’s match against Everton, and their terrible defensive record has partly been down to the club’s current goalkeeping options.

Both Joe Hart and Adrian have featured between the sticks this season with both of them proving not to be the right choice for the Hammers.

Moyes’ team battled off the threat of relegation this campaign but need to sign a good goalkeeper in order to achieve much more in the Premier League next season, as they should be aiming for a top-10 finish.

McCarthy is exactly the type of shot-stopper needed at the London Stadium for the Hammers to achieve their goals.

The 28-year-old giant may have conceded 44 goals in 32 appearances this season, while playing for Southampton, but he has still managed to impress.

The Saints would have clearly let more goals fly into their net if it wasn’t for the acrobatic reflexes of McCarthy and he should be patted on the back for his part in saving his current side from the drop.

McCarthy could easily be tempted with a move to the Hammers, ahead of the Reds, the Gunners or Wolves, as there’s clearly an opportunity for him to continue to play first-team football at the club.

Given the Hammers’ resources and expectations, they will no doubt being aiming higher than the Saints next season and that will see the 28-year-old want to make the move.

Therefore the Hammers must joined the reported race for the 28-year-old’s signature as he would solve the problem of goalkeeper at the club.
