West Ham fans on social media were dismayed over a report claiming that they were in the hunt to sign West Bromwich Albion defender Ahmed Hegazi.

ESPN reported on Wednesday that the Hammers, along with Tottenham and Leicester City were keen on trying to pry the World Cup-bound defender away from the Baggies.

The broadcaster stated that while previous claims of Hegazi being available for a cut-price fee of £2.5million following his side’s relegation were false, the Baggies were still expecting plenty of offers for him.

The giant centre-back, who stands at 6ft 4in tall [Transfermarkt], regularly featured for the Baggies in the recently concluded season, making 42 appearances for them across all competitions.

Yet despite regularly featuring for a fellow Premier League side, Hammers supporters were not happy at their club being in the hunt for the colossus.

One fan took to Twitter to state that they would rather his teammate Craig Dawson, while another supporter, perhaps sarcastically, tweeted Manuel Pellegrini out.

The veteran manager has only been charged for mere days with the club officially confirming his appointment via a statement posted on their website on Tuesday.
