West Ham fans on social media sent a brutal message to Patrice Evra ahead of his imminent exit and it was the send off the defender’s performances deserved.
The 37-year-old right-back arrived at the London Stadium on a free transfer in February and signed a contract to keep him with the club until June, as confirmed by the Hammers’ website.
Yet after watching Evra for only a matter of months, which saw him make five league appearances in that time, the experienced Premier League player’s departure couldn’t come soon enough.
Evra was a pointless and bizarre signing to make, with David Moyes clearing panicking about his squad’s lack of depth, as the 37-year-old no longer looked capable of keeping up with the pace of the Premier League.
The Hammers already had a shaky defence upon his arrival and his presence did nothing to change that, if anything it was a more nervous experience watching the team play when Evra was on the field.
Football.London previously reported in April that the Hammers were unlikely to offer Evra a new deal and with June nearly upon us, that definitely looks like being the case.
While the 37-year-old no doubt tried his best and his presence may have helped younger members of the squad, his displays deserve nothing more than the door hitting him on the way out.
Something that Hammers supporters on social media ensured happened when the star celebrated his birthday on Tuesday, with a notable portion of fans hijacking the club’s official post to send him a unique celebratory message.

He'll be getting a card from the queen then?

Happy Birthday Evra….but; a West Ham legend? How many minutes did he have for us? Lol

Therefore it seems Hammers supporters rightfully ensured that Evra had the door hit him on the way out of the London Stadium as he’s destined to leave the club shortly, in June, when his deal expires.
