David Moyes must play attacker Jordan Hugill against Everton on Sunday to at least give the 25-year-old a chance at saving his West Ham career.

Reliable Hammers news site Claret and Hugh reported on Wednesday that Hugill would be the first player on the chopping block in the summer with the forward poised to leave as long as the club received a realistic bid.

The news outlet claimed that the 25-year-old was set for a return to the Championship, after arriving at the London Stadium from Preston North End in January, but no enquires have been made as of yet.

While the Hammers shelled out £10million for his services mere months ago, as reported by the BBC, Hugill has hardly been given a chance to kick a ball for the club.

The centre-forward has only made three appearances for Moyes’ side in the Premier League, with his playing time totalling a woeful 22 minutes.

Hugill hasn’t impressed in those outings, unsurprisingly, as he has barely had time to get a touch of the ball, let alone adjust to playing in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

Despite this it seems that his career is already doomed at the London Stadium and the very least the Hammers manager could do is play him against Everton on Sunday.

The Toffees’ clash is the Hammers’ last game of the season and it’s not like they can be relegated, nor is Hugill capable of single-handily costing them the game.

While the club may have strangely given up on him already, the centre-forward would no doubt love a chance to show that he’s worthy of playing in England’s top-flight.

It’s obvious that if given significant playing time, for example actually starting a game, the forward would throw everything but the kitchen sink at the Toffees in order to save his Hammers career.

Therefore at the very least, Moyes should allow Hugill the opportunity to do this by playing the 25-year-old against Sam Allardyce’s side on Sunday.
