West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has openly stated that he would like to sit down and talk about his future at the club.

The 6ft 2in tall (Transfermarkt) 31-year-old played in 22 games across all competitions for the Hammers in the recently concluded season and spent most of his time behind Joe Hart in the pecking.

Adrian, whose contract expires in 2019, revealed that the club were yet to inform him of his role ahead of next season and that he wanted to find out Manuel Pellegrini’s opinion of him.

The giant goalkeeper was thought to have issued an ultimatum, as stated by Estadio Deportivo on May 17, over his future previously by informing the club he’d leave if David Moyes stayed.

“I have one more year of contract left,” Adrian said in an interview with Marca.

“There have been quite a few movements since we are on vacation, they are refreshing the team that perhaps is what was good for us.

“Now to see Pellegrini’s opinion of me, we have to sit down and arrive at the best decision for everyone.

“Let’s see if they trust me and give me the opportunity to continue playing, that Pellegrini is clear and sincere.

“I’ve been there for five seasons, I do not have to prove to anyone the level I have. The club at the moment have not told me anything. ”

OPINION

Adrian really does like talking about his future at the Hammers and clearly he is keen to be assured that there is a starting place in Pellegrini’s line-up for him. However it’s unsure why the 31-year-old veteran thought the club would act so quickly to inform him of their plans for him, as considering pre-season hasn’t begun yet, it’s perfectly normal that he has no information. While the shot-stopper has been at the club for a fair few seasons now, if he wants his first-team status guaranteed, he needs to look elsewhere. Adrian was handed more than enough chances last season to dethrone Hart as the Hammers’ number one choice. Yet despite this, even though the Manchester City loanee was a error-filled machine, Adrian didn’t exactly do enough to see him permanently rank above him. With this being another incident of the 31-year-old demanding reassurances about his status with the club, the Hammers should put him out of his misery and inform him whether he is set to be offloaded this summer or not.
