When it was announced that Manuel Pellegrini was to be appointed as the next West Ham manager, reports emerged to suggest that Javier Hernandez was set for a big role under the Chilean.

The Evening Standard claimed that the Mexico international was almost certain to leave under ex-boss David Moyes, but Pellegrini’s desire for more attacking football would now see him play big part at the London Stadium.

You would think that the striker would be happy about the change of manager at the club considering his well-publicised poor relationship with Moyes.

However, Hernandez’s recent comments on the situation are instead worrying for Hammers fans, who may end up watching the 29-year-old star walk away from the London Stadium this summer.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, Hernandez said: “Of course I am a West Ham player still, but we’ll see. Right now what can I tell you? I’m glad there’s a new manager? I’m sad there’s a new manager?”

When asked if Pellegrini was a good appointment for the club, he replied: “I don’t know.”

Now, Hernandez did go on to remind people that his mind was fully focused on the World Cup, but these do not sound like the words of a man who is looking to remain at West Ham this summer.

Hernandez sounds less than enthused by the prospect of working under Pellegrini and staying at the club, and that is not a good sign for those who want the Mexican to stick around for another season.

Whatever the situation you would expect a player to issue some words of encouragement or excitement over the potential of working under a new boss, but that is not the case at all here.

The reasons behind Hernandez’s comments is obviously not known, but almost certainly open the door for an exit for Hernandez this summer.

And, if this is how he is going to react to the most exciting time in the club’s recent history, then why does he deserve a place in the team next season?

Hernandez will have put himself far down in the estimations of many fans with these comments, and the club should dump him this summer.

The Hammers need players who are committed to the cause, ones who are excited by the prospect of what the future holds in east London.

Hernandez can obviously not be counted among those, and that must see him dumped by the club in the coming weeks.
