West Ham United have submitted a massive offer to lure Fiorentina midfielder Milan Badelj to the London Stadium on a free transfer, according to Tutto Mercato Web

The Italian outlet report that the Croatia international has immediately turned down the offer from the Hammers, with his priority being to sign a new deal in Florence after being made captain following the death of Davide Astori.

TMW claim that Championship side Aston Villa also submitted an offer for the 29-year-old, but the Villans play-off final loss diminished the appeal of their bid.

Good move for West Ham?

A move for Badelj would seem to make sense for the Hammers, who need to bring in reinforcements in central midfield this summer.

Mark Noble and Cheikhou Kouyate have both suffered dips in form and need bolstering in that area, and Badelj would certainly be a good option for the club.

The Croatia international made 27 appearances for Fiorentina in 2017/18, with an injury limiting his involvement, but there is no doubt the 6ft 2in enforcer [Transfermarkt] would make an impact in east London.

The possibility of a free transfer makes this one an even sweeter deal.

Likely to happen?

It looks like Badelj has emphatically knocked back West Ham’s approach, with the 29-year-old keen to remain in Fiorentina.

TMW report that despite his contract renewal coming late, with his current deal set to expire, there seems to be no suggestion that it will not materialise.

It seems therefore that a deal is not likely to happen.
