West Ham manager David Moyes wants proof that the club will back his ambition for the club to become a top-eight Premier League side in order to stay, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim that the current Hammers boss is set for crunch talks about his future within a week of Sunday’s game against Everton, and that players will have no say in whether he stays or goes.

The Daily Mail report that insiders have said they think it is likelier a new manager will be brought in rather than Moyes staying beyond this season.

It is believed that if the current Hammers boss heads for the exit door than the board run the risk of looking like they’re unwilling to provide the funds needed to turn the club into one fighting for a place in European competitions.

OPINION

As Moyes’ ambitions seem to be the reason why he is considering leaving the club, it’s true that the board run the real risk of looking unambitious. The Hammers hierarchy are surely aware that cash needs to be splashed on the club’s depleted squad in the summer, as it lacks the necessary quality. The London-based club should be pushing for a top-eight finish in the near future and no supporter is going to disagree with Moyes on that. However it can be argued that perhaps the Scottish manager shouldn’t be the one handed the funds to lead the club forward. Moyes’ time at the club has seen him set-up his side to play boring football, even after survival was secured, and it’s not the most enjoyable experience to watch to say the least. If anything the board can quickly dismiss any notion that they’re unwilling to spend even if they sack Moyes. The club’s hierarchy simply have to act fast in the transfer market, for once, and show that they simply got rid of Moyes as that didn’t see him as the right fit for the club. While changing a manager is always a major decision for club, it’s better to do it sooner rather than later if there are doubts.
