West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady shared her relief over the season finally be over before defending the London Stadium.

The businesswoman revealed that the Hammers’ season had contained many more negatives than positives but vowed that lessons will be learnt.

“From my point of view I will be pleased when this season is finally over,” wrote Brady in her column for The Sun.

“It has not been one West Ham expected or wanted and it has had more downs than ups but it is one we will learn from.”

Brady then moved on to claiming that football stadiums are vastly better than ever before and directly addressed problems that West Ham had faced over using the London Stadium this season.

“Our stadiums are vastly better and more comfortable than they were and this may have something to do with the sensible behaviour of all but a tiny number of supporters,” said Brady.

“We have some problems at the London Stadium caused to a degree by the terms of our lease, which we are tackling, but also by malcontents and keyboard warriors.”

OPINION

Brady claims she has learnt lessons from this season, yet makes a rookie mistake by the time she gets to taking about the London Stadium. The Hammers vice-chairman clearly takes a dig at those who have voiced their unhappiness at the London Stadium, but they have every right to. While there should be limits to how a person shows their criticism, personal abuse is never acceptable, the board’s decision to uproot the Hammers is not beyond being questioned. The London Stadium is a beautiful venue from the outside, however it was clearly never built with football in mind. Supporters are too far away from the pitch and there’s a disconnect between the fans who pay every week and their club. Brady may claim that some problems are being addressed at the London Stadium, but the most frustrating issues seem beyond fixing. Hammers supporters have already visibly and rightly shown their frustration at the board this season and Brady perhaps shouldn’t be so careless to undermined their opinion again.
