West Ham are in advanced talks to land Argentine recruitment expert Mario Husillos, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the new Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to be reunited with Husillos after they worked together in Spain.

The Sun report that the deal to recruit Husillos is “some way down the line” after he left relegated Malaga earlier this month, but there is concern among the Hammers board of directors about his recent transfer record.

OPINION

The Sun have billed Pellegrini’s attempts to bring Husillos to the London Stadium as a power struggle with the Hammers top brass, who have doubts about his record as Malaga plunged into the second tier in Spain. Following his arrival last October, Husillos brought in eight new players who all failed to turned around the team’s wretched season and they were relegated long before the campaign had ended. Only those involved at Malaga will know the true extent of Husillos’ failings, indeed if there were any. He is certainly well known to Pellegrini, as they worked together at Malaga before the 64-year-old arrived at Manchester City in 2013. The new manager clearly trusts the judgement of a man who helped Malaga punch above their weight for three years. West Ham are right to be cautious, but they can protect themselves by handing Husillos a contract with get-out clauses if he fails to deliver the goods.
