West Ham captain Mark Noble has paid tribute to teammate James Collins in an emotional Twitter post on Monday, and fans have reacted by calling for the veteran defender to be handed a new deal.
Collins, who has spent ten years at the club over two spells, is out of contract this summer, and it is not known whether the Hammers are to offer him an extension yet.
The 34-year-old Wales international has made just 15 appearances for the club this season after injury problems dropped him down the pecking order.
In total, Collins has turned out 216 times for the Irons during his two spells in east London, scoring nine goals and providing four assists in that time.
Hammers skipper Noble has now posted an emotional tweet about his teammate, and expressed his hope that Collins’ time at the club would continue:

Fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the post, with many seemingly in agreement with Noble about the prospect of a new contract for the 34-year-old.
Some supporters even went as far as calling Collins a club legend, with others suggesting that the club hand him a player-coach role and help him to get his coaching badges in the future.

If ginge leaves we riot….or write a sternly worded letter to the board! Either or.

He is a legend, does not only deserve another contract, he deserves to have a testimonial. Like you said, we have been very lucky to have him! Great person and a great defender

Either way if we get a new manager or if Moyes stays, it would be a great way to get the fans onside by offering him a contract straight away + the fact that that he deserves it anyway for his service over the years it is a no brainer #gingerpele
