David Moyes is unlikely to remain as West Ham boss after holding talks with the club hierarchy about his future, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster report that Moyes held talks with club bosses over his future on Monday, and is now not likely to be handed a new deal at the London Stadium.

Sky Sports claim that between 30 and 40 managers have expressed an interest in the job, while Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is on the club’s shortlist of potential replacements.

This development comes as a shock considering Moyes led the club to 13th in the Premier League with a win over Everton on Sunday, after being brought in with the club in the bottom three in November.

The club’s reported decision comes as even more of a shock after Hammers insider site Claret and Hugh previously claimed the Scot was in pole position to retain his job.

OPINION

Wow. The news that most Hammers fans have been hoping for seems to have come to fruition. Rumours were swirling about Moyes’ diminishing position of power within the club, and that raised hopes of the Scot being dumped by the club this summer. Their win over Everton on Sunday would have seemingly increased his chances of retaining the job as he saw the Irons to a 13th-placed finish, but that does not look to be the case now. Reports suggested that the club’s owners were growing concerned about Moyes’ poor relationship with the fans, who have made their feelings known about the Scot and his style of football. Those concerns now seem to have come to a head with this news, and the search for a new boss will now begin. The club have been linked with names such an Unai Emery, Manuel Pellegrini and Marco Silva in recent days, and any of those three would be a good option. The Hammers need someone who can take them to the next level and challenge for a European place next season, and it was quite clear that Moyes would not be that man.
