West Ham have confirmed that Manuel Pellegrini will become their new manager on a three-year deal, and fans have taken to Twitter to rave about the appointment.

As reported on the club’s official website on Tuesday morning, the 64-year-old joins the Hammers after leaving his job with Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune.

The former Manchester City boss returns to the Premier League just two years after being replaced by Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Pellegrini had the Premier League’s fifth-highest ever win percentage during his time at City, with the Chilean becoming the first boss from outside Europe to lead his side to the title, while also lifting the League Cup in the same year.

Hammers chairman David Sullivan has described Pellegrini as “one of the world’s most respected football coaches”, as well as saying that the 64-year-old will attract exciting players to the London Stadium.

Ecstatic Irons fans on Twitter have been blown away by the announcement, with Pellegrini replacing the outgoing David Moyes who was less-than-popular with much of the fanbase.

Some supporters have however taken the chance to encourage the board to back Pellegrini with funds this summer as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging in the top half of the table.
