Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca has turned down the opportunity to become the next West Ham manager, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the 45-year-old has made the decision to snub the the Hammers after a meeting with co-owner David Sullivan.

It is understood that Paris Saint-Germain’s Unai Emery, ex-Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini and Newcastle’s Rafael Bentiez are all being ionised for the vacant position at the London Stadium.

West Ham confirmed David Moyes’ departure on Wednesday despite the fact he dragged them away from relegation trouble in the Premier League.

OPINION

Fonseca has now reportedly ruled himself out of the running to be the next West Ham boss and supporters should be slightly disappointed by that. He has recently helped Shakhtar to the Ukrainian top-flight league title and plays an attractive attacking style of football. The Hammers fans are keen for someone to play eye-catching football next season, while also helping them shoot up the league table towards the European positions. Moyes was unfortunately just not the right fit for the London club, but did a great job on a short-term basis. West Ham are now being linked with some elite managers to takeover at the club and Spaniard Benitez would be an exceptional pull if they secured a deal for him. They do need to try wrap up the appointment imminently and give the new man plenty of time to prepare ahead of the 2018/19 season, where there has to be massive improvements on the pitch.
