West Ham’s quest to improve their midfield ranks this summer is seeing the Hammers eye a move for a highly-rated midfielder, who’s lost his way with a European giant.

The Daily Mirror states West Ham will go head-to-head with Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, who has failed to impress at Camp Nou following his move from Valencia in 2016.

Catching the eye during Portugal’s European Championship winning campaign, Gomes is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer and West Ham will present him with that opportunity, although Tottenham can offer Champions League football.

Gomes has the chance to raise interest in his services further at this summer’s World Cup and West Ham were attributed with interest in the Portugal international back in January, before signing his compatriot Joao Mario on-loan from Inter Milan.

Still just 24, Gomes has already earned 29 caps for his country and West Ham could present the ideal opportunity for the midfielder to get his career back on track.
