West Ham boss David Moyes had made no secret of his desire to bolster his midfield options in the summer transfer market and the ideal opportunity may be about to fall on the Scotsman’s plate.
Italian outlet Calcio Mercato state that Barcelona are ready to sell Portuguese international Andre Gomes this summer and are looking for a fee of around £21-26m, potentially handing West Ham a bargain in the inflated transfer market.
24-year-old Gomes arrived at the Nou Camp from Valencia after Portugal’s success at the 2016 European Championships and was initially touted to the the heir of Andres Iniesta’s midfield throne, although that’s now proven to not be the case.
Gomes has struggled for opportunities in Catalonia and the capture of Arthur from Brazilian side Gremio could push him out of the door, where a move to the Premier League could be on the cards as both West Ham and Tottenham have been attributed with interest previously.
Whilst Spurs may be the most attractive opportunity due to their European endeavours, Gomes would find a much easier time pushing into the West Ham side.
