West Ham boss David Moyes is desperate to bolster his midfield ranks after failing to land a permanent addition in January, instead signing Joao Mario on-loan from Inter Milan, and his hopes of rectifying that this summer have been handed a blow.

The Hammers have regularly been named as potential suitors for Anderlecht’s Belgium international Leander Dendoncker, who admitted earlier this year he was disappointed to miss out on a transfer away from his current side, but Moyes now risks missing out.

Sports Witness cites reports that reveal Atletico Madrid have signed a €20m preliminary agreement with Anderlecht for the services of Dendoncker, although it’s not binding and doesn’t rule-out the possibility of West Ham landing the four-cap international.

Atletico instead have the option of submitting a move this summer and have a right to match any fee Anderlecht offer that exceeds €20m, which West Ham may have to do to bring the 23-year-old to the Premier League.
