West Ham are weighing up a move for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn after sending assistant boss Billy Mckinlay to watch him in action this weekend, according to The Daily Record.

The 23-year-old has excelled this season, scoring six goals in 34 appearances, and put in another solid performance under the watchful eye of McKinlay on Saturday as his side beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Easter Road.

Hibernian, sat fourth in the Scottish Premier League table, are desperate to retain the services of the five-cap Scotland international but face a stern battle to keep him at the club- with Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic both attributed with recent interest.

However, Hammers boss David Moyes is said to be a fan of McGinn and could make a move to bring his compatriot to East London- and Hibs would certainly prefer to a Premier League side rather than one of their domestic rivals.

The likelihood of McGinn leaving is increased by the fact that he has entered the final 18 months of his current contract, which means he would become available for free in 2019.
