West Ham’s Premier League fight looks set to remain beyond the closure of the season as reports suggest they will go toe-to-toe with a relegation rival for a World Cup midfielder this summer.

French outlet La Provence states the Hammers are fighting Newcastle United for the signature of Marseille midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, as David Moyes looks to bolster his midfield options in the close season.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season in Ligue 1 this term and has been one of the most consistent defensive midfielders within the French top-flight, which has attracted the attention of the Premier League duo.

Interest in Zambo Anguissa could rise further in the coming years but West Ham will be encouraged to make a move this summer after seeing the likes of N’Golo Kante and Abdoulaye Doucoure flourish in the Premier League during recent campaigns, which suggests that Zambo Anguissa could enjoy similar success.

Hopes of landing his signature will likely hinge on retaining Premier League status though, which adds pressure for West Ham and Newcastle ahead of the Premier League’s run-in.
