West Ham have turned their sights towards the continent as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of  battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League in the second half of the season.

The Hammers have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to land midfielder’s from their rivals within the top flight, including Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey, and have now reportedly shifted their attention to Europe.

The Telegraph states West Ham are seeking the services of experienced Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario on-loan, with the reports adding that talks are progressing well and an initial agreement has been reached.

Inter splashed a mammoth £39.8m to bring Joao Mario to the San Siro from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon but he has since become frustrated due to his lack of playing time and is seeking further opportunities ahead of the World Cup.

The Italians do not want to sell permanently but are keen to hand the 24-year-old the first-team football he desires in the second-half of the season and West Ham currently stand in a positive position in the quest to land his services.
