West Ham face a stern test in the market in the final week of the January window and there’s a number of exciting deals that could go ahead, though those pieces of business could be both incoming and outgoing.

The Hammers have struggled for stability this season, although they have seen improvements under the guidance of David Moyes, but the Scotsman’s proposed business in the January window is controversial- particularly with one reported deal.

There has been a number of suggestions that indicate summer signing Javier Hernandez could leave East London this month after struggling to settle back into life in the Premier League, with sides in the MLS amongst those said to be interested.

West Ham splashed £16m to bring the forward in from Bayer Leverkusen last year and they may be tempted to cash-in in order to raise their funds for their own January activity, but shifting him on too soon would be a massive mistake.

The Hammers have waited a long time for a top-class striker and have finally got one in the form of Hernandez. Whilst his performances this season haven’t been stellar, the experience that the Mexican has suggests that he can improve in the future.

The biggest factor is that West Ham have established themselves with a negative reputation in the transfer market, seeing a number of their signings in recent years fail. That would certainly be a concern to the players that the Hammers chase and, as such, ousting a big-name recruit like Hernandez would send a very concerning message.

Simply put, offloading him this window would be a move far too soon. The Hammers need to ensure that the move they make is the right one and, so far, it’s not clear one way or another whether Hernandez will succeed in East London.

West Ham cannot afford to make mistakes in the market, particularly due to their current position in the table, and more time needs to be given to Hernandez to settle.
