West Ham face a crucial test this month as they seek to remain above the Premier League’s drop zone, having risen out of the bottom three following a 2-1 victory this week against fellow strugglers West Brom.

The Hammers’ form has improved dramatically since David Moyes replaced Slaven Bilic in East London but the Scottish boss is keen on rejuvenating his under performing side this month following a difficult start to the Premier League campaign.

Defensive reinforcements are being eyed as the Hammers look to shore up their back line for the remainder of the season but the fight for the signatures of prime targets is set to be fierce, with plenty of rivals also eyeing moves.

West Ham may face difficulty in landing one defensive target in particular as The Daily Mail states Leicester City have made an enquiry to Augsburg regarding the services of Daniel Opare, who’s contract with the German side expires this summer.

The 27-year-old is expected to be allowed to leave this month to ensure that the Bundesliga side get a fee for the defender’s services and West Ham are amongst those interested in a deal, which could cost just £3m due to his contract situation.

However, Opare will have his pick of English sides to join as the likes of Stoke City and Championship leaders Wolves also attributed with interest in the experienced centre-half.
