West Ham United are desperately seeking to improve their ranks in January after a poor start to the Premier League season, which has seen the Hammers occupy a spot in the relegation zone.

New manager David Moyes is still seeking the first victory of his tenure at the London Stadium and things look bleak for the weeks ahead, as the Hammers clash with defending champions Chelsea and top-four hopefuls Arsenal.

Money is there to be spent in the New Year and Moyes is ready to revive interest in an international midfielder who failed to secure a summer move, with The Sun stating a rift with Sporting Lisbon has been healed.

Portuguese ace William Carvalho is the man targeted by David Moyes’ side to help get them out of their current predicament but they may have to spend more than the club-record figure parted with in the summer for Marko Arnautovic’s services.

A statement issued by West Ham confirmed that relationships between the two sides has been fixed, with both free to do business with each other in the future.

“West Ham and Sporting Clube de Portugal acknowledge that a breakdown in communication based in contacts between representatives from both clubs in respect of a possible transfer of William Carvalho was the cause of a misunderstanding.”

‘Subsequent to this, the clubs have had positive communications and the matter is now resolved. On this basis, friendly relations between the clubs will resume and there will be no barriers to both clubs negotiating or working together in the future.’
