West ham have enjoyed a fine upturn in form in recent weeks, having impressed in a defeat to Manchester City before beating Chelsea 1-0 and holding Arsenal to a goalless draw.

The victory over the Blues was the first under the tenure of David Moyes and has put the Hammers in a fine position heading into the busy festive period, although as it stands the East London side remain in the Premier League’s relegation zone.

The deficit of Moyes’ side now stands at just one point though and victory against Stoke City this weekend could raise the club out of the bottom three, should results elsewhere go in the club’s favour. However, one pundit doesn’t see it panning out that way.

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson is tipping the club to extend their unbeaten run to three matches but believes the Hammers will have to settle for a share of the points this weekend. Writing in his weekly predictions, he said:

“West Ham have started to pick up some points – and to follow their narrow defeat at Manchester City with a win over Chelsea and a draw with Arsenal has produced some positivity around the place.”

“After four defeats in their past five games, Stoke do not have much of a feel-good factor at the moment and Potters boss Mark Hughes is probably under more pressure than he has ever been since he has been there.”

“But the Potters’ performance in their 1-0 defeat against Burnley on Tuesday was much better than the result. If they play like that again, they should get something to show for it.”

The ex-Liverpool defender is predicting a 1-1 draw between West Ham and the Potters this weekend, which wouldn’t be enough to lift the Hammers’ out of the relegation zone.
