Former Everton star Leon Osman has said David Moyes was a ‘good appointment’ for West Ham United after the Scot secured is first victory as Hammers boss at the weekend.

A goal from Marko Arnautovic sealed a stunning 1-0 victory over London rivals Chelsea at the London Stadium to gift West Ham only their third top flight victory of the season.

A week previous, the Hammers were unlucky to come out pointless against Manchester City after an equally impressive performance, and Osman says he expected no less after Moyes was given the job in East London.

“I think he’s a good appointment (for West Ham),” Osman told The Debate.

“We were so well drilled, we didn’t lose soft goals really which is vital when you’re down there.

“We knew set pieces in and out, he’s very meticulous, went right into detail and I think you saw that on the pitch.”

Osman spent 11 years under Moyes at Goodison Park, and while many doubted his appointment – especially after a 4-0 loss to his former side in his first game in charge – the midfielder never doubted the Scot.

“When you’re going into a new team it’s difficult to implement your style, it takes at least a month to get your style across and to drill them so that they naturally think (and) it becomes second nature just to fall into shape and be organised.”
