West Ham could be handed a huge financial boost in January with the offloading of one player who seems to be surplus to requirements, as a Championship side are eyeing an ambitious swoop.

The Daily Mail states promotion hopefuls Cardiff City are eyeing a January move for West Ham striker Diafra Sakho, as they seek a top-tier signing to bolster their chances of securing a return to the top-flight of English football.

Senegalese international Sakho has struggled to secure regular playing time in East London, with his opportunities being hampered by a number of injuries, and it was reported that he tried to force an exit from the club in the summer.

West Ham hung onto the African ace but with David Moyes seeking additional attacking recruits in the New Year, a sale of Sakho seems likely- and could bolster the Scottish boss’ transfer kitty if their £12m valuation is met.

It remains to be seen whether Cardiff are willing to finance such a deal and Sakho himself may snub a move down to the Championship, as he looks to seal a spot in his nation’s World Cup squad.
