Summer signing Javier Hernandez says he is ‘100% committed’ to West Ham despite rumours that he wanted to return to Mexico before the 2018 World Cup.

The former Manchester United striker, who joined the Hammers in a £16 million deal from Bayer Leverkusen during the summer, has been rumoured to favour a return to his home country ahead of next year’s tournament following a disappointing start to his career in East London.

Mexican journalist Jessie Cervantes sparked rumours of a London Stadium exit with his now deleted tweet, reading: “Nicolas Romay informs us that Chicharito Hernandez asked for West Ham’s permission to play for Chivas prior to Russia 2018. It was denied.”

However, Chicharito was quick to respond in his own message on Twitter, stating: “Completely false.

“I am 100 per cent committed to helping improve the situation we are all experiencing at West Ham.

“As always I say this, I am Chivas at heart, but I have not asked to leave West Ham at any time.”

Hernandez has scored 4 goals in all competitions this season as West Ham sit 18th in the Premier League table.
