West Ham midfielder Edimilson Fernandes says he feels the gamble of moving away from his home country has paid off after being given a number of first team opportunities by manager Slaven Bilic.

The Swiss international is only in his second season in the Premier League but he told the club’s official website that he is delighted with how things have gone so far in England:

“The more I play, the more I progress and I have the coach’s confidence, so I am enjoying the amount of football I am playing at the moment.”

“It was a big decision to leave Sion when I did – I made my debut and came through the youth ranks there, so it was hard to leave, but I also also pleased to embark on a new adventure and I am very happy here.”

The 21 year old signed from Sion in August last year, and his senior debut for Switzerland followed close behind with Fernandes getting his first international cap against the Faroe Islands last November.

Since then, he has been used more and more often by the Hammers, following up his 32 appearances for the club last season with another seven appearances so far this campaign.

The midfielder has had his season curtailed somewhat by an ankle sprain which kept him out for five league matches, but he was reinstated to the starting line up for the 2-2 draw against Palace last week.
