New West Ham manager David Moyes says he is ‘hungry’ to make things right at the London Stadium after disappointing spells at both Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

The Scot was appointed as Slaven Bilic’s successor earlier today after the Croatian’s two-and-a-bit season tenure in East London was brought to an end following his dismissal.

Now with a big job on his hands after what has been a disappointing start to the season for the Hammers, Moyes says he is determined to turn West Ham’s season around.

The focus here is purely between now and the end of the season. The first thing is to win the next game and build from there, and I’m sure we will be in a much stronger position before long.” Moyes told The Guardian.

“I’m really looking forward to meeting the supporters and being in the stadium with them. I’m looking forward to seeing them get right behind the team, and my team also. We need the support, we need everybody with us. It’s a big job we have in hand now but I’m sure with everybody together we can get the right results between now and the end of the season.”

Moyes was relegated with Sunderland last season, and was sacked from his previous role with La Liga side Real Sociedad. Before that, he of course spent time with Manchester United, where he too failed to make the impact he would have hoped in the wake of Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Asked whether he has a point to prove after what’s been a tough past five years or so in management, Moyes said: “Yes, I think I do. I’ve managed five clubs since starting out nearly 20 years ago, starting at Preston and then going to Everton. My period at Manchester United is well documented and I then did something I have always wanted to do by experiencing management abroad, with Real Sociedad.

“It’s only been the last job where I feel it wasn’t a good move and I didn’t enjoy the experience. So I’m hungry to make sure I get things right now. I don’t know any manager who hasn’t gone through negative periods, especially in the game today. I hope it gives me great strength and understanding of what is required.”

Moyes first game in charge will see him travel to Watford on November 19th after the international break.
