West Ham fans have been left thrilled by the news that club icon Stuart Pearce will be making a return to his former club as part of new manager David Moyes’ back-room staff.
The Scot, who was announced as Slaven Bilic’s successor early last week, has now added both Pearce and his former assistant at both Preston North End and Everton.
Sunderland coach Billy McKinlay, whom Moyes worked with at both the Black Cats and Real Sociedad, is also expected to join the Hammers by the end of the week.
The former of the new trio, Pearce, made 50 appearances for West Ham during 1999 and 2000, and he says he is thrilled to back at is former club.
“I’m really looking forward to coming in and getting involved,” said Pearce.
“The opportunity to work with David Moyes, who I have respected greatly over the years, was a big factor, as was having previously played for the club.
“It’s been many years since I was there for a couple of seasons, but I really enjoyed my time. The West Ham fans were fantastic to me and I’m looking forward to coming back.”
Not only is he looking forward to his return, as are the Claret and Blue army who seem thrilled with his appointment as an assistant coach …
I think Stuart Pearce is an excellent addition to the coaching staff at West Ham. A man who commands respect, will help motivate the players, demand 110% and work closely with the youth players. A good appointment. pic.twitter.com/Y6otjA4roP
