West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to wish James Collins well after he announced his retirement from international football.
‘Ginge’, as he is affectionately known at the London Stadium, called time on his Wales career after having made 50 caps for his country.
Collins was part of the famous Wales squad that reached the semi-finals of last summer’s European Championships in France, however after now finding himself behind a number of others including Ashley Williams and James Chester in the defensive pecking order, he has decided to hang up his boots.
“The time has come to step aside to let the younger lads take our great country forward and to great things,” he said on Instagram. (via BBC Sport)
“It’s been a difficult decision to come to, to leave behind such a amazing set of lads and a top manager in Chris Coleman and all his staff, but feel the time is right.”
Wales failed to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Russia, narrowly missing out on a play-off spot to the Republic of Ireland.
West Ham and Wales fans alike wish him good luck in his life after international football …

When you've earned 51 caps for your country then you can criticise James Collins. Good servant for Wales at a time when others hid.

Played really well in the semifinal. Great that him and Chris sorted their issues out when we needed him. Really good player
