Former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp has urged new boss David Moyes to pick Andy Carroll, and believes the big man could hold the key the Hammers’ Premier League survival.

Carroll, who missed the early part of the season through injury, made an instant impact upon his return to the first team side, with the Hammers picking up their first win of the Premier League season with a 2-0 victory against Huddersfield Town.

While Carroll has since been in-and-out the starting line-up, Redknapp believes the performance against the Terriers was the best the Hammers have looked this season, with much of it being down to Carroll starting up top alongside Javier Hernandez.

“The best I’ve seen West Ham play this season was the Huddersfield game at home,” Redknapp said.

“Andy Carroll play and they handed it to him at every opportunity, when they got in the final third. He dropped it down, the little guy Hernandez was lively and running off him and getting around him, and if that’s effective then that’s the way you’ve got to play.

“If I was there now I’d have to be honest, you’d get that style.”

Carroll is yet to find the net this season however, and has been rumoured to be on his way out of the club in January.

It remains unclear whether the striker is part of David Moyes’ plans in East London.
