West Ham must improve in ‘every way’ if they are to avoid relegation come the end of the season says defender Pablo Zabaleta.

The Hammers have had a poor start to the new Premier League season and currently sit 18th in the top flight having won only 2 of their 11 games so far. They have also conceded more than any other side, leaking a dismal 23 goals.

Zabaleta, who signed on a free transfer from Manchester City during the summer, insists his side need improvement.

“If you look at the performances this season we need to improve in every way – offensively, defensively and we need to be a more creative team, we need to try and not concede too many goals – we need to step up,” the Argentine said.

“It is time to be positive and look forward to the season. There’s a long way to go and everything depends on us, which is good.”

The Hammers next challenge is against Watford this weekend, and new manager David Moyes, as well as Zabaleta, will be looking to get back on track with three points at Vicarage Road.

“Of course, it’s going to be a tough game but we have a good squad – we need to work well and be focused on our next game,” the 32-year-old added.
