Ex-West Ham United star Matthew Etherington says his former club are in ‘huge danger’ of relegation this season following their poor start to the campaign.

The Hammers currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League having won only two of twelve top flight games this season.

Having sacked manager Slaven Bilic earlier in the month and ushered in David Moyes to help rescue the season, the club has yet to see a turn in fortunes.

Etherington, who spent six seasons in East London making almost 200 appearances, believes it is worrying time for his former club.

“I’ve been really worried by the recent performances to be honest with you and I think there’s every chance they could go down, I really do.” he said speaking with TalkSPORT.

“I just don’t see a lot in that team right now.”

He added: “It is very tight down at the bottom. There are a lot of teams that could easily get dragged into a relegation battle.

“From a West Ham point of view, the next few games are key. If they don’t get anything from them, I can’t see them getting anything from the games against Chelsea, City and Arsenal.

“Then you’re going into the Christmas period in the bottom three, maybe rooted in the bottom three, and then it is a real uphill task.”
