West Ham could be set to be handed a crucial injury boost with the return of summer signing Javier Hernandez.

The Mexican striker has been out of action since suffering a hamstring issue on international duty, missing the first two games under the tenure of David Moyes- a defeat to Watford and a draw with Leicester City.

Hernandez was on the sidelines again this evening for the crucial clash with Everton but spoke to the club’s official website, where he revealed he’s closing in on a recovery and aims to feature against Manchester City on Sunday.

“Hopefully I’m close to returning. Hopefully this week I can get involved with the team, we’re going to see.”

“With this type of injury you have to be careful because it is a hamstring and sometimes the best thing is that you [don’t rush] but I’m feeling very good, and we’ll see if I can get involved with the team this week.”

“Of course I have memories of playing against Manchester City but that game is a at the end of the week. We have a midweek game against Everton away first and we need to think step-by-step. We will try to get the three points there.

“We’re coming up to the busiest time in the Premier League. Hopefully for us and the Hammers fans it will be a good moment.”

West Ham face an extremely busy schedule in December, with the Hammers having eight Premier League matches and a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Arsenal.
